Luke Foster has been accused of being too nice for his own good. He enjoys being helpful though and never thought it was a problem until he met Summer. Now he believes she feels indebted to him and it isn’t gratitude he wants from her. Summer Slough feels guilty for using Luke. She also feels an attraction to him that she doesn’t know how to handle. It’s beginning to look as though her mistakes and inexperience will keep them apart. Lucky for both of them, Hartford’s annual Yam Fest is right around the corner. The community event has a way of bringing people together… maybe even Summer and Luke.
Jealousy Yams Stories From Hartford Volume 2 Amanda Hamm 9781943598014 Books
The title of Jealousy & Yams, which initially seems odd, is actually very appropriate for this story. The town Yam fest is one of the main plot points and is the topic of many amusing conversations. And as for jealousy... strangely enough, it's the reason that Summer and Luke first meet! Though the word "jealousy" often brings to mind unpleasant feelings, the story itself is actually rather sweet. Yes, I was initially leery of Summer because I didn't understand what her game was, but it turned out to be quite interesting. Though Summer's intentions were at first slightly mischievous, her unexpected attraction to Luke turned her plans completely upside-down, causing her to reevaluate her motives.I really liked Luke's humorous penchant for abruptly changing topics in the middle of a conversation. Sometimes the change seemed semi-logical, and other times it was pretty far out there....yet I couldn't help but grin each time he did it, because the quirkiness of it gave him such a likeable, down-to-earth type of vibe. I felt bad because people ragged him about the quirk, but Summer's approach to it was really nice in that she was supportive, and they were even able to laugh about it from time to time.
There's some familiar faces from the first Hartford book that pop up, which is kind of fun because it gives the setting a familiar feel, though the main characters are new. However, it's all done in a clever way so that there's no necessary reading order for the series. If you want to just read one book, or you accidentally read them all out of order--don't worry! It really won't matter.
Though I normally tend to be annoyed when characters don't communicate the big stuff, Summer's and Luke's motivation for not sharing their feelings was actually kind of sweet. Despite a rough--and admittedly, odd--start to their relationship, neither wanted to force the other into anything. I really enjoyed watching their relationship as it falteringly grew. Amanda Hamm's stories are always sweet and cute, and this one is no exception. I admit it did take me a couple chapters to "get into" the storyline, but after that I was quickly hooked and finished the story in just 4 sittings. I very much enjoyed it, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next Hartford story!
My Rating: 4.5 stars. Thanks to the author for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Jealousy Yams Stories From Hartford Volume 2 Amanda Hamm 9781943598014 Books Reviews
I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Jealousy & Yams is written by Amanda Hamm and is the 2nd book in the Hartford Series, but reads like a standalone novel. The book focuses around the two main character of Luke and Summer. Luke is a shy introverted young man that has started up his own software company. Summer has just gone through a breakup and sees Luke as an opportunity to make her ex feel jealous.
Amanda has written a story that is a quick and fun read. Jealousy & Yams tells the story initially from Luke’s mother’s mind from the opening of the book and then between Summer & Jake. It was a great way to read a book, being able to know the thoughts and feelings from both the male and female perspective. It was very interesting for me seeing things from both sides and made me contemplate how different past relationships may have been interpreted from the male point of view.
Amanda has written likeable characters that are “normal” people. It was great to get to know the small town and the people in it. The small town atmosphere definitely came across through the words on the pages. It can bring memories back about the apprehension of your first kiss and the lack of self-confidence that is often found in the young dating experiences.
Jealousy & Yams was a worthwhile light read and I give it 4/5 stars. If you are into a lighthearted romance and from a small town it is easy to relate to this book. I definitely recommend this book.
Having read another of Ms. Hamm's stories, I was interested to see how this compared to an earlier work.
What worked for me with this one Luke is, overall, a sweet, likeable hero. He takes socially awkward and conversationally challenged to a whole new level. At times, the quirk did get a bit tiresome, but for the most part, I liked him.
Summer has her own little quirks, mostly based on her inexperience. Each time she thinks Luke is going to kiss her, she freaks out. This, combined with Luke's difficulty making eye contact, leads to a lot of misunderstanding.
What didn't work for me Unfortunately, Ms. Hamm still has a penchant for information dumps when describing settings and people. A grocery list of items found in a room does not help the reader envision said room. It just causes the reader to skip the tedious descriptions.
Additionally, there are random pieces of information that never come back up in the story. For example, the young woman Luke's mother wanted to introduce him to at the beginning of the story ends up getting married before she and Luke ever meet, so why even bring her up? Along with these random facts and/or people, there are lengthy scenes that just seem like filler. They do nothing to further the story or develop characters.
Throughout the book there are numerous and sudden POV changes. While I enjoy getting the story from multiple POVs, you just can't change within the same paragraph, back and forth several times.
Finally, I strongly encourage Ms. Hamm to read her work aloud. Some of the repetition is distracting.
Overall, I enjoyed the STORY, but would only recommend this book if it's free or price reduced. A little bit of quirk - in characters and writing - can go a very long way.
